Not far from the picturesque Swan River in Perth, we completed a fabulous garden project with a unique and modern appeal. The key component of the project brief was to ensure that the owner’s property appears exceptionally different from the similar design of the attached building next door. This was successfully achieved not just through the landscape but by architectural additions to the building façade, which provided a connection between the two.
The end result is a beautiful garden with strong inclination towards geometric elements with a mild Asian feel that ensures the functionality of the spaces are just as beautiful as the form.
Impressive Garden Design Features
This project has several fascinating and contemporary elements. Some of the distinguishing features that were added to this garden include an eye-catching, granite water feature as well as a sundeck, plunge pool, and pavilion. An additional feature is the hidden storage shed in the rear garden. In other words, the teams of both these companies provided these homeowners a great blend of design elements and functional features.
At the same time, we continued to be part of additional requirements for altering the frontage of the house. For this purpose, the building exterior was made to gel with the theme of the garden design. This was achieved by creating a large, facade awning made of steel and timber lined which is consistent throughout the landscape structures.
This featured project is situated close to the Swan River. As much as this fact gives stunning views to the residents of the neighbourhood, it resulted in a great amount of challenge for our team. A six metre deep pump well required to compensate for the high water table with its access hatch unfortunately located in the entry courtyard, was cleverly concealed via a custom weathered steel light box that illuminates the cubist granite water feature that strikes upon entry to the house.
Attention to detail by both teams is also visible in the manner that every inch of this long and narrow site has been utilized to fulfill predetermined and desired goals.
This project is based on great emphasis on the creation of bold structures with the noteworthy use of strong forms that are driven by function. The design and construction professionals from both companies included customized structures for the building’s facade, entrance area, plunge pool, and gate house, achieving an outstanding cohesive resolution between the building and landscape.
For this project, we received the award for the Best Residential Contractor over $150,000 category at the 2011 LAI (Landscape Australia Inc) National Awards of Excellence.
